Meet Alfie: Shy Guy with Serious Sweet Side. Alfie is proof that sometimes the sweetest relationships are the ones you have to earn. Right now, Alfie is probably the shyest cat in our shelter. But shy does not mean mean, unfriendly, or incapable of being affectionate. Alfie is simply a little overwhelmed by the whole "people are everywhere all the time" thing, and he's still learning that humans can be pretty great. What he needs most is time, patience, and someone willing to let him come out of his shell at his own pace. The best way to get on Alfie's good side? PLAYTIME. Springs are his absolute favorite, and watching him discover that you're the person bringing out the fun is a pretty great way to start building a friendship. Once Alfie starts feeling comfortable, you'll discover there's a purr tucked away in there, too. It takes a little coaxing to bring it out right now, but when you finally hear it, you'll know you've made some serious progress. Alfie may not be the cat who runs to greet you on day one. He's the cat who might hide at first, cautiously watch you from across the room, and eventually decide that maybe you're okay. Then, one day, the cat who used to be nervous around you will be happily accepting your pets like they were always part of the plan. If you have the patience to let Alfie become Alfie, he has the potential to become a wonderful companion. His journey may take a little longer than some, but we think the trust, affection, and purrs at the end will make every step worth it.
