About Achilles
Have you ever lived with a cat? Because Achilles would like you to know that he's not particularly interested in being a dog. He's got his own agenda, his own opinions, and a whole collection of secrets, mysteries, thoughts and motivations that he has absolutely no intention of explaining to you. Food? Praise? Treats? Lovely gestures, really, but Achilles is not especially moved by your attempts to win his approval. He's perfectly capable of deciding what he'd like to do, when he'd like to do it.
But don't mistake his independence for a lack of affection. Achilles is a lovable, personable guy with all the loyalty, sensitivity, and devotion that make Akitas such special companions. He's just not going to shower you with enthusiasm every time you walk through the door. His love language is a little more understated, his sense of humor is entirely his own, and his side-eye can knock a grown man flat on his back.
Like many Akitas, Achilles is a strong-willed fellow who appreciates a person with confidence, consistency, and a good understanding of boundaries. He's not necessarily looking for someone to tell him how wonderful he is every five minutes. He's looking for someone who respects his independence, understands that earning his trust is a process, and appreciates a dog who marches to the beat of his own drum. He's also a more reserved, discerning sort when it comes to social relationships, so thoughtful introductions and an understanding of his breed's social tendencies are important.
At six years old, Achilles has perfected the art of being unapologetically himself. He's a little goofy, a little stubborn, occasionally mysterious, and entirely convinced that the world operates on his schedule. If you're looking for an endlessly obedient, approval-seeking sidekick, you may want to keep scrolling. But if you appreciate a dog with character, a healthy dose of independence, and the kind of loyalty that has to be earned rather than handed out freely, Achilles might just be your guy.
