About the event

Clear the Shelters is a nationwide call to action to help pets find loving homes, and SAVE is throwing its doors open for it. Our adoption standards stay exactly the same. The goal for the day is simple: get as many dogs, cats, and kittens into loving homes as we can.

Your game plan

  1. Before Saturday: apply online

    Complete the adoption application in advance. Pre-approved visitors move through the line far faster on event day.

  2. If you rent: grab your paperwork

    Bring a copy of your lease or a letter from the property owner permitting pets.

  3. Saturday, 11 to 3: bring the family

    Every member of the household should come meet your new pet. Please leave other dogs at home for this visit.

Heads up: an open house means a crowd, so wait times may run longer than a normal adoption visit. We appreciate your patience.

Kittens: buy one, get one

Two kittens for the price of one (regularly $350). Kittens thrive in pairs.

$0Fee waived

Long-stay adult pets

Fees waived for adult dogs and cats who have been with us longer than four months.

Specials are honored through Tuesday, September 1, 2026 for adoptions started, but not finalized, on Saturday, August 29.

Who's behind it

Clear the Shelters is NBCUniversal Local's annual adoption campaign, joined by shelters across the country every August. SAVE has called Skillman home since 1941, and every adoption this Saturday makes room for the next animal who needs us.
